Massachusetts College of Art + Design
Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) in Boston is one of the nation’s oldest art schools and the only publicly funded, independent art school in the United States.
Situation: Every year, MassArt produces a Viewbook for prospective students to prompt interest and increase enrollment for undergraduate and graduate programs in visual and applied art.
Results: This is a 2-in-1 piece, right side up and upside down, depending on whether you’re looking at the broad overview or specific academic programs. Different paper textures provide a tactile experience: the clear envelope’s bold pattern interacts with an unexpectedly simple cover. Interior pages are more active, mixing translucent sheets with saturated color, bold pattern and art markings. The photography is rich, emulating the artsy urban environment. All of these details converge to give the viewer a sense of what life is like at MassArt. Added bonus: the design and unique format was loved by the in-house marketing team, so much so that they repeated it for two more years.
My role: Concept + Design, Writing — front cover and large divider pages (while at Sametz)
