farm to table dining

Have you ever heard of Outstanding in the Field? It’s a unique 5-hour dining experience
referred to as a mobile restaurant without walls because you are literally sharing a meal
with 150-200 people in nature. On the beach, in an open field, on a vineyard, inside a
cozy barn, in clear view of a mountain range... you get the picture.

Founded in 1999 in Santa Cruz, the owner’s mission is to “reconnect diners to the land
and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and artisans who cultivate it.”
Blackbird Farm hosted our meal and the chefs from Gracie’s in Providence provided the
amazing menu of fresh ingredients from the farm and their own rooftop garden. It was
decadent and delicious. Everyone who attends is extremely friendly: those who host and serve, and those of us who just show up to eat. It was so memorable and for those who are
interested, tickets go on sale the first day of spring each year. They sell out quickly, so
try to reserve a seat at the table if you have the chance.
