it’s the thought that counts

This is the time of year when people are thankful for what they have in life, and are apt
to show gratitude toward others with gifts. There are so many local artisans selling
everything from food to clothing to art to crafts to home goods. If you look up the word
handmade in the dictionary, it says: “made by hand, not by machine, and typically
therefore of superior quality.”

I love to purchase items made by artists who specialize in a particular craft, and then I
add a personal touch. One year I made black and white themed gift boxes. And the time
I ran out of traditional wrapping paper, handmade paste papers (finger painting) and
collage did the trick. This year I decided to simplify by making cards instead of gifts.
I’m hoping for more color and whimsy in my life, so why not wish the same for others?
